District Tourney Week

The rain and wind winter storm that swept through the area at the end of last week forced the closure of many local schools and the postponement of most regular season finale contests on Friday evening.

Park View’s games against Southampton HS were rescheduled for Monday while Brunswick and Surry teed it up for a rare Saturday evening match-up.

Since many of the contests were moved to Monday, the Tri-Rivers District tournament will start on Wednesday instead of Tuesday with the four highest seeds on the boys and girls sides’ hosting first round games.

The tournament semifinals will be played on Thursday at the higher seeds while the girls and boys tournament championship games will be played on Saturday at a neutral site.

The Surry girls completed an undefeated district campaign after topping Brunswick HS 56-30 on Saturday and are the top seed on the girls’ side. The Park View girls meanwhile are the No. 2 seed while Brunswick is the No. 3 seed.

On the boy’s side, Greensville wrapped up the No. 1 seed for the district tournament with last week’s 86-36 win over Windsor while Brunswick sealed the No. 2 seed with a 60-47 win over Surry HS on Saturday evening.

The Park View boys will enter the district tournament as the No. 3 seed , which could set up another contest against Brunswick on Thursday if both teams win their quarterfinal c
