LAWRENCEVILLE – The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two house fires that resulted in the death of two people.

First Sergeant Joey Lopresti said the sheriff’s office received a call on May 5 around 530 a.m. regarding a fire at Pinecrest Apartments, 64 Crestview Road, Apartment 408. Deputies evacuated the building and determined the fire was contained to apartment 408. The body of Tawanda Drumgold, 48, was found in the back bedroom. She was the only occupant. She was pronounced dead at the scene and the body was sent to the medical examiner’s office.

The Lawrenceville Volunteer Fire Department, Dolphin Volunteer Fire Department and the Alberta Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire. It appears the fire started in the kitchen. The case is under investigation.

A second fire claimed the life of Edward Russell Ghee, 80, of 915 Jonesboro Church Road, Blackstone.

Captain of Investigations Gary Peterson said the call came in around 5:30 a.m. The house was fully engulfed when responders arrived. The wife said her husband was in the back bedroom. When she awoke fire was coming from the bedroom. She exited the house and called 911.

Peterson said the Alberta Volunteer Fire Department and Kenbridge Volunteer Fire Department responded. The case is under investigation.
