On Wednesday, Nov. 6, Virginia Department of Transportation crews will close Route 630, Waqua Creek Road, over Waqua Creek for a bridge replacement project. Weather permitting, the $1.2 million project is expected to be completed in summer 2020.
Tommy Johnson, Residency Administrator, South Hill Residency, said the existing structure was built in 1918. Once work is complete, weight restrictions on the structure can be restored to normal load capacity. The following detour will be in place for the duration of the project:
Eastbound Route 630, Waqua Creek Road -Take Route 764, Wynn Creek Road south to Route 1, Boydton Plank Road south to Route 629, Rawlings Road north back to Route 630, Waqua Creek Road. Westbound Route 630, Waqua Creek Road -Take Route 629, Rawlings Road south to Route 1, Boydton Plank Road north to Route 764, Wynn Creek Road north back to Route 630, Waqua Creek Road.
