LAWRENCEVILLE – Jamie Saunders, a senior at Brunswick Academy, signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Mary Baldwin University in the fall. She will trade her Vikings uniform for the Flying Squirrels uniform. Her parents are Joy and Jeff Saunders of Valentines, Virginia.
Her family hosted a reception at BA on Sunday, March 17, 2019 to celebrate Jamie’s accomplishments and to thank the many people who have supported her.
Matt Fimon, Athletic Director, offered a word of welcome and said he had enjoyed working with Jamie and felt certain she had a bright future at Mary Baldwin.
Rev. John Jones, Lawrenceville United Methodist Church, offered the invocation and commended Jeff and Joy for raising such a talented young woman.
Joy said she was so proud of Jamie and time was short as she ends her high school career.
“It’s been a great run for her. Jamie will always have a deep love for BA. It’s been an absolute pleasure for her to be a Lady Viking. There has not been a day to go by that someone has not helped Jamie in some way. It really does take a village to raise a child,” Joy said.
Joy thanked her family, friends, administration, and she called the coaches “world class.” She thanked the coaches for making sure Jamie had her Chap Stick and Gatorade before turning her attention to the “Brian” factor, referring to Brian Poarch, Head Basketball Coach.
