Cleaton and Callis Capture Titles

The Brunswick High School girls and boys track and field teams both finished in fourth place in the Class 2, Region A Track & Field Championships held at Maggie Walker Regional Governors School in Richmond on May 22. There were 13 regional schools in competition.

Darious Callis led the boys’ team in scoring with 14 points. He placed first in the high jump and seventh in both the 110 meter & 300 meter hurdles.

Chadwick Cleaton and Rodney Gillus each scored 10 points. Cleaton placed first in the 200 meter dash while Gillus placed third in the 300 meter hurdles and fifth in the 110 meter hurdles.

J’Twan Hardy scored 5 points by placing fourth in the triple jump while Deundre Wyche scored 3 points by placing sixth in the discus. Isaiah Simmons scored 2 points by placing seventh in the triple jump.

The boys’ 400 meter relay team scored 8 points by placing second. Relay team members were Simmons, Amarion Taylor, Je’Carus Boone and Cleaton. The 1600 meter relay team scored 6 points by placing third. Relay team members were Amarion Taylor, Hardy, Duane Taylor, and Cleaton. The 3200 meter relay team also scored 6 points by placing third. The relay team members were Duane Taylor, Deonta Jones, Edward Corker, and Hardy.

Leading the girls’ team in scoring was Aniya Seward. Seward scored 25 points by placing second in both the 100 meter hurdles & triple jump. She also placed third in the long jump and sixth in the high jump.
