Deadline to enter Brunswick Stew Cook-Off is Sept. 29

LAWRENCEVILLE – The 2019 Taste of Brunswick Festival will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lawrenceville-Brunswick Municipal Airport, 77 Airport Drive. The festival is being held at the airport this year because of construction at Southside Virginia Community College, Christanna Campus, Alberta.

The airport will be closed for three days, a day before and after the festival, to set up and clean up.

Stewmasters cook our famous Brunswick stew, there are lots of activities for the kids and lots of different types of music. Add in the antique tractors, new tractors, hayrides, inflatables, a mechanical bull, live music all day, the art show sponsored by the ArtBank of Southside Virginia and lots of vendors and you get a great day for the family. The Taste of Brunswick Festival draws people from Brunswick County but also from Greensville and Mecklenburg County and as far away as Powhatan. The Car Show sponsored by Virginia Wheels is a favorite.

The Brake Tyme Band from Henderson, N. C., new to the Taste of Brunswick Festival, will perform from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

You saw many families together and the busiest time seemed to be from around 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. when the area around where the Brunswick stew was being cooked was really busy.

One of the highlights of the day is the Brunswick Stew Cook-Off when Stewmasters compete for the title. Winners will be announced at 2 p.m. Stew is ready by 11 a.m. and sold by cup, bowl and quarts are available for sale after 11 a.m. Most people are loyal to a Stewmaster and wait in line to purchase stew.

The deadline to enter the cook-off is Sunday, Sept. 29. Call George Daniel with the Brunswick Stewmasters Association for more information at (434) 594-4400.

The Taste of Brunswick Festival Planning Committee will meet the second Tuesday of the month at 2:30 p.m. at the airport. Volunteers are needed. Be a part of the planning. The festival is a great way to showcase the best of Brunswick County.
