Aniya Seward named Meet MVP for Girls

The Brunswick High School girls and boys track and field teams captured the Tri-Rivers District Track & Field Championships held at Sussex High School on Thursday. The other district schools participating were Greensville, Franklin, Park View, Southampton, Surry, Sussex, and Windsor.

Aniya Seward led the team in scoring with 48 points and was named the girls’ meet MVP. She placed first in the high jump, long jump, 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. Seward also placed second in the triple jump.

Ayanna Coleman scored 19 points by placing second in both the 100 meter and 300 meter hurdles, fifth in the triple jump, and sixth in the long jump. Nyasia Brown scored 15 points by placing second in the 200 meter dash, fourth in the triple jump, fifth in the long jump, and sixth in the 100 meter dash.

Desmyn Owens scored 14 points by placing second in the shot put and third in the discus. Dyasia Easter and Jonita Hargrove each scored 10 points. Easter placed first in the 400 meter dash while Hargrove placed third in the 200 meter dash and fourth in the 100 meter dash. Dynasty Collins and Tynejah Goode each scored 2 points. Collins placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles and Goode placed fifth in the discus. Keyhonesty Edmonds scored 1 point by placing sixth in the shot put.

The 3200 meter relay and 400 meter relay teams scored 10 points by placing first. The 3200 meter relay team members were Jamea Walker, Sherilya Hicks, Tiara Pritchette, and Collins while the 400 meter relay team members were Brown, Coleman, Hargrove, and Seward.
