During these challenging times I am continuing to work for you.
On Monday, I joined the Fauquier County Public Schools grab and go food program to help families in need living in the 5th District. The program distributes over 2000 bags of food including five breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for families each week.
I also sent a letter to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar asking that Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund dollars be designated for clinical laboratories. These funds would go towards covering the costs of performing COVID-19 Tests.
I sent a letter to Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf on enhancing our security and stopping the flow of illegal drugs. The letter asks the Department of Homeland Security to purchase more Cutter ships the Coast Guard can use to patrol our waters in the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean sea.
As we continue to practice social distancing, the Financial Services Committee has transitioned to remote hearings. Also, the China Task Force has worked to find solutions to the challenges we face from the Communist Chinese Government.
On Wednesday, the Republican Study Committee issued a report on steps the United States can take to ensure America continues to lead on the global stage. Priority #1 in that report is developing a plan to counter the Communist Chinese Government.
If you need help with a federal agency, please contact my Charlottesville Office at (434) 973-9631. At this time, all Smithsonian museums in Washington, DC, including the National Zoo, are temporarily closed to the public. Additionally, tours of the White House, US Capitol, FBI, and Library of Congress have been suspended to help contain the outbreak and prevent community spread.
