The Madness

There is no doubt that March Madness is in full effect and this week’s Round of 16 should produce some great games.

And that is truly what makes the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament one of the best sporting events on the planet.

There were plenty of great performances and story lines across the first weekend of the tournament.

Congrats to former Park View standout Keldon Johnson who was simply sensational in Kentucky’s 79-44 Southeast Region first-round win over Abilene Christian on Thursday night.

Johnson led all Wildcat scorers with 25 points and added six rebounds in the victory.

He scored in a variety of ways in his first NCAA tournament game. Johnson always seem to step up for Kentucky in the big games.

The talented freshman ran into foul trouble on Saturday in a second-round contest but still contributed nine points and four rebounds as Kentucky advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 62-56 win over a good Wofford team.

Former Brunswick HS standout BJ Stith and his Old Dominion Monarchs also turned in a gritty performance but No. 3 seed Purdue University was just too much and picked up a 61-48 victory in a Southeast Regional first-round tournament game on Thursday evening.
