It’s the final week of the regular season for many of our local high-schools as teams make one last push to earn a regional playoff berth.
The Dragons fought hard last week but fell 28-15 on the road at Southampton.
Park View came into last week at No. 10 in the 3A regional rankings but the Southampton victory, who came in at No. 9, gives the Indians the upper hand in earning a playoff berth as only the Top 8 teams in the final rankings qualify.
The Dragons will complete their regular season at home on “Senior Night” against Windsor HS on Friday.
The Dukes have struggled this season and fell to 0-6 in the district after falling 44-0 to Franklin last Friday.
Park View topped the Dukes 41-12 last season and are 6-0 against Windsor since joining the Tri-Rivers District.
The Brunswick Bulldogs meanwhile are still in the hunt for a 2A playoff berth after topping Surry HS 33-8 last week to improve to 4-5 on the season.
Brunswick will travel to district-leading Greensville for the annual “Ole Wooden Bucket” game on Friday night.
The Eagles topped Sussex-Central 38-14 in a battle of district unbeatens this past Friday to lock up at least a share of the regular season title.
Greensville has won four of the last five games in the series including a 32-0 victory last season.
Brunswick Academy meanwhile topped Southampton Academy for the second week in a row, picking up a 44-36 victory on Friday in a semifinal playoff contest.
The Vikings will travel to Kenston Forest on Friday for the VISFL Division 2 championship game.
