The Brunswick High School girls’ varsity basketball team earned a big win on Friday night, topping Greensville HS 58-53 in Emporia.

The victory was one of two on the week in the district for Brunswick to improve the Lady Bulldogs to 7-5 in Tri-Rivers District play.

Brunswick could not keep the momentum going on Saturday afternoon however and fell 60-42 at Colonial Beach to fall to 8-8 overall on the campaign.

Brunswick, 58-53

The Lady Bulldogs earned a huge district victory with a 58-53 win in overtime at Greensville HS on Friday evening.

Brunswick got off to a great start in the contest, jumping out to a 18-12 lead in the first quarter after Nyiesha Pair banked in a three-pointer as the buzzer sounded ending the first eight minutes of play.

The Lady Bulldogs continued its great start in the second quarter taking a 25-14 lead on a bucket by Aniya Seward at the 3:42 mark.

Tamara Blanks hit a bucket for a 29-14 lead at the 2:21 mark and Brunswick took a 30-16 lead to the halftime break.

Brunswick got a bucket from Blanks at the 5:41 mark of the third quarter for a 32-16 lead but Greensville stormed back to close the margin to 32-26.
