The Brunswick High School varsity boys’ basketball team rebounded from a home loss against Park View HS to top Sussex-Central HS 63-51 on Friday night in Lawrenceville.
The victory avenged an 80-69 loss to the Tigers earlier in the season and improved Brunswick to 11-3 in the district standings. Sussex fell to 7-7 in the district and 8-8 overall with the defeat.
The Bulldogs could not keep the momentum going on Saturday however, falling 78-70 to Louisa HS in a showcase event at the Arthur Ashe Center in Richmond.
Sussex got off to a good start on Friday, jumping out to a 17-15 lead in the first quarter and outscoring the Bulldogs 13-11 in the second stanza to take a 30-26 halftime lead.
Brunswick outscored Sussex 20-15 in the third quarter behind nine points from Jermonta James and six from Reginald Walker to take a 46-45 lead.
Walker scored six points in the fourth quarter while Jadan Firman added five as Brunswick outscored Sussex 17-6 with a late 12-0 run to seal the victory.
Firman led Brunswick with 19 points in the contest while Walker scored 16, James tallied 12 and Traivon Callis added 10.
Tavon Jones led Sussex with 19 points while Amonte Turner scored 12.
