State Tourney Primer

A hearty congratulations this week to Head Coach Mike Barmoy, Asst. Coach Yolanda Ayres-Talley and the entire Park View Lady Dragons varsity basketball team on qualifying for this week’s VHSL Class 3 state tournament.

The Lady Dragons played a whale of a game in topping third-seeded Petersburg HS 62-52 in overtime last Tuesday to earn the programs’ first state playoff berth since 1991.

Park View was overwhelmed by top-seeded Hopewell HS 74-37 in the regional title game on Friday night as the Lady Blue Devils were able to force a number of turnovers with their pressure defense which led to easy lay-ups.

Hopewell jumped out to a 12-0 lead and never looked back in the contest to repeat as regional champions.

Coach Barmoy said his team just simply turned the ball over too many times to be competitive in the game.

The road will not get easier as the Lady Dragons will play a very good team in William Monroe HS from Stanardsville in a state quarterfinal contest on Friday at 7 p.m. at Orange HS.

The Green Lady Dragons will bring a 23-2 record into the state quarterfinal game after topping Brentsville for the third time this season 42-32 in the Class 3, Region B title game on Friday night.
