The Brunswick Academy Lady Vikings varsity softball team captured both games of a doubleheader against Blessed Sacrament Huguenot last Wednesday to capture the VCC regular season title with a 9-1 record.
The Lady Vikings earned a bye will be the top seed for the VCC tournament on May 8-9 at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex.
Emily Roberts started on the mound in the first game. Roberts has been dealing with an arm issue most of the season but she pitched all three innings in BA’s 16-0 slaughter rule win, tossing a no-hitter.
Sydney Paul went 3 for 3 in the game with 2 RBI while Kyleigh Capps went 1 for 2 with 3 RBI and Jamie Saunders went 1 for 2 with 2 RBI. Skylar Capps added two hits in the win while Bailey Edwards added one.
The Lady Vikings started senior captain Jamie Saunders on the mound in the second game. Saunders is still recovering from an ankle injury but she threw the first inning and recorded all three outs. She struck out one and caught the other two balls hit back to her.
Kyleigh Capps came on in the second inning and pitched the next two innings to share the no-hitter with Saunders in the 18-0 slaughter rule win.
