The fourth-seeded Brunswick High School varsity girls’ basketball team fell to top-seeded Surry HS 65-28 in a Tri-Rivers District tournament semifinal contest on Friday night.

The loss dropped the Lady Bulldogs to 10-11 on the season.

The Lady Bulldogs were hampered in the semifinal contest as Niaya Henderson was unable to play after being injured late in a quarterfinal win over Sussex-Central.

Surry jumped out to a 21-3 lead in the first quarter and outscored Brunswick 19-4 in the second quarter to take a 40-7 halftime lead.

The Lady Bulldogs were able to get their offense going in the second half but Surry cruised down the stretch to the victory.

Nyiesha Pair scored 21 points for Brunswick in the game while Tynejah Goode scored six and Desmyn Owens added one.

Bre’cha Byrd led Surry with 18 points in the victory while Jasmyn Pierce scored 12 and JerRhonda King added 10.

Brunswick is expected to open Class 2, Region A play at home on Friday night but the opponent was not known at press time.
