The South Hill All-Stars battled hard but were eliminated after falling 23-22 to Brunswick in an elimination game on Sunday evening in the Dixie Softball District 1 Angels tournament at Parker Park.

South Hill fell 12-8 to Blackstone in its tourney opener on Friday but rebounded to top Clarksville 12-2.

Brunswick meanwhile loss 22-4 to Crewe in its opener but enjoyed a bye on Saturday.

South Hill got off to a good start in the top of the first scoring four runs but Brunswick answered with five in the bottom of the inning.

You knew the game was going to be a shootout when South Hill scored six runs in the second and Brunswick answered with 11 to take a 16-10 lead.

South Hill fought back with 12 runs in the third inning to open up a 22-16 lead.

Brunswick scored one run in the bottom of the third and six in the fifth to claim the victory.

Avery Griffin and Addison Gibbs scored four runs apiece for Brunswick while Chloe Stamper scored three times and Ch’Myiah Parham, Tia Turner, Tabby Atkins, Zamari Bright and Janie Hott scored two runs apiece and Autumn Daniel and Mallory Lewis scored one run apiece.

Daniel had a bases clearing triple and two hits in the game while Parham also had two hits with a triple and Griffin and Gibbs had one hit apiece.

Ainsley Dooley, Sara Malone and Rachel Newcomb scored three runs apiece for South Hill while Aubreigh Lafoon, Callie Curry, Makayla Bairel and Za’Riyah Jones scored twice and Blessin Gill, Brooklyn Moody, Hailey Lett, Bailey Johnson and Bentleigh Cross scored one apiece.

Dooley, Bairel, Jones and Gill all had one hit apiece for South Hill.
