Dogs Claim Round 1

The Brunswick High School varsity boys’ basketball team captured Round 1 in South Hill last week with a 69-56 win over Park View in their first basketball meeting of the season in Tri-Rivers District action.

The Bulldogs have been sensational in the early season and now have wins over Greensville and Park View to sit atop of the district standings alone with a perfect 5-0 record.

Dragons’ coach Danny Watkins said in the preseason that his team would be a work in progress in the early going and that has been the case.

Park View has played well in spurts and could still be a very dangerous team by the time playoff time rolls around.

Coach Charreko Walker has the Bulldogs playing at a high level and Brunswick will look to keep that good play going after the holiday break when the stakes get even bigger.

The Park View boys and girls varsity teams will now enjoy the holiday break before returning to the court on January 8 with a road date at Franklin HS.

The Brunswick boys and girls meanwhile will return home to play host to Southampton HS on January 8

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to each of you!

It has certainly been a big year of sports across Southside Virginia.

I am proud to call this area home as we have a number of outstanding athletes and coaches.

A local newspaper is only as good as the support it receives from its community and we are fortunate to have many that help us throughout the year with stats, scores, news information and story tips.

Many thanks to all of the coaches, scorekeepers and parents that help to keep us updated on community activities.

I am already looking forward to the New Year!
