All young teams go through some growing pains each season and the Park View High School varsity football team endured a few on Friday night.
Playing their first road game of the season, the Dragons fell behind early as a good Halifax County team scored on four of its first five possessions to jump out to a big lead.
Despite the loss, the good news is the game was against an upper division Class 4 team which will help in the power points, and the contest provided the Dragons with a checklist for some things they need to work on.
The Dragons will now turn its sights to Friday night and its Tri-Rivers District opener against Franklin HS.
The Broncos have struggled early this season and will come in at 0-3 after falling 54-12 to Essex on Friday.
Park View’s 28-13 victory on the road at Franklin last year in the district opener helped pave the way for the Dragons’ undefeated district run.
The Dragons have won three straight over the Broncos in the series with Franklin’s last win coming in a 22-21 victory in 2015.
One of the memorable contest in the series was Franklin’s 54-53 win over the Dragons back in 2013 when it seemed the last team with possession of the ball would win.
The Brunswick Bulldogs meanwhile enjoyed a bye this past week as they hope to get healthy for the start of district play.
