On August 30, 2021 at approximately 7:17 a.m., the Virginia State Police responded to a single vehicle accident on Route 58 east of Route 644 in Brunswick County. Sergeant Michelle Anaya said the driver of a 2012 Lincoln Navigator, Jerome Miller, was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, lost control, ran off the roadway and struck a tree. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to catch fire. Both the driver, Miller, 31 years of age, of Bronx, New York, and his front seat passenger, 50 year old Twanna Sharpe, of Kennersville, North Carolina, died upon impact. One backseat passenger, a 19 year old female was taken to VCU hospital in South Hill, Virginia. The other backseat passenger, a 16 year old male, was transported to VCU Richmond with life threatening injuries.
