A night of elegance

The prom at Brunswick High School was cancelled last year because of the pandemic. Prom Walk was held on Saturday, May 1, 2021. The weather was perfect for dressing up in formal attire. Access to the gym was closely monitored and all CDC guidelines for safety were followed. Keyon James and Jayda Smith are shown.

LAWRENCEVILLE – The area around the Brunswick High School Tech Center and cafeteria was buzzing with activity on Saturday, May 1, 2021 for prom. The theme was “Mask”, querade: “A Year to Remember.”

Principal Dr. Ron Thornhill said the event provided the opportunity for BHS Juniors and Seniors and their guests to experience prom, a very special high school occasion. Prom was cancelled last year due to the pandemic. The event was live streamed on the schools’ YouTube page. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office monitored access. Arrival began at 7:30 p.m. and no spectators or parents were allowed on campus. In the past family and friends lined the street to watch the couples arrive.

“We wanted to do something for the students this year. This gives them a chance to dress up and have their pictures taken. I want to thank our staff and others for their hard work in planning this event for the students,” Dr. Thornhill stated.

Dr. Thornhill said the Virginia Department of Health approved the plan for Prom Walk and all CDC guidelines for safety were followed. The number of people allowed in the gym was monitored. The participants were announced and recorded on YouTube, photographed at the special backdrop, then exited the gym and received a gift bag.
