LAWRENCEVILLE – Bryon Keith Anderson, 26, from Petersburg, Virginia is charged with possession of a Schedule I, II controlled substance on Aug. 19, 2021.

Captain Brad Evans with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Sam Finch was working stationary radar at the 31 north crossover on Interstate 85 and checked a vehicle traveling 83 mph in a 70 mph zone. He initiated a traffic stop. When Finch approached the vehicle the driver, Anderson, only partially rolled the driver’s side window down. Finch explained the reason for the stop and asked for license and registration. Finch ran the information and the results was a Class 5 felony warrant from Petersburg. While waiting for other units to arrive dispatch confirmed the warrant and other information. The vehicle was searched.

Evans said the officers noticed he was talking funny and suspected he placed something in his mouth. He was asked again and Anderson said he didn’t have to talk with cops. Anderson was taken to the Meherrin River Regional Jail. The officers noticed Anderson was sweating profusely. He was asked again if he ingested something or if he had anything in his mouth and he shook his head “no.”

In other matters, Rashad Jamel Alexander, 35, from South Hill, Virginia is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on Aug. 20, 2021 and reckless driving.

Evans said at 10:14 p.m. Deputy A. W. Connell stopped a car on Governor Harrison Parkway at Grandy Road traveling 100 mph in a 55 mph zone. He initiated a traffic stop. Connell could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver’s person and his eyes were glassy. He conducted several field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was arrested and later blew a 0.12 BAC. Alexander was held on an unsecured bond and released when sober.
