Sen. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) issued the following statement after the Senate unanimously approved a resolution to honor U.S Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman with a Congressional Gold Medal following his heroic actions during the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

“The Congressional Gold Medal is the highest civilian award in the U.S., awarded to those who have performed an achievement that has had an impact on American history.

“Officer Goodman was captured on video holding back a group of insurrectionists and redirecting them away from the unguarded Senate floor. And in footage unveiled this week, Officer Goodman diverted Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) out of the direct path of the violent rioters.”
