Dolores Aida Lipton

On the afternoon of November 17, 2022, Dolores Aida Lipton of Lawrenceville, Virginia passed away at age 89. Aida, as she preferred to be known, was born in Argentina in 1933 and moved to Lawrenceville to marry her husband Dr. Gilbert S. Lipton in 1962 where they raised their two children Mike and Doug. Aida spent the first 29 years of her life in Buenos Aires with her parents and sister. She obtained the equivalent of an associate’s degree and worked for a lawyer until meeting the love of her life while visiting the United States. Aida and Gil corresponded by mail for over 6 months before he proposed, and she accepted. After moving to Lawrenceville, the new couple built a life in the small town which remained their home for the remainder of both of their lives. As the children grew, Aida began her “second career” working for a local bank where she would remain until she retired in 2005. Although Aida had grown up in a large city, she adapted well and grew to love Lawrenceville. She began taking English lessons becoming fluent in the language and working toward her U.S. citizenship which she obtained in the early 1970’s. She loved to travel, read (especially the newspaper), visit museums, go to plays, bridge club with her husband, sewing and most of all conversing with her family, friends and neighbors.

Aida is preceded in death by her husband and is survived by her sons Mike (wife Shelli and stepdaughter Taylor), Doug (his three children Ryan, Elisa, and Katie), her lifelong friends Yemi, the Woofter family, Susan and the community of Lawrenceville who always helped look after Aida in her final years. A memorial service will be planned in the spring with the location to be determined to celebrate the lives of both Gil and Aida Lipton.
