Sharon departed this earthly life at the Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, Virginia. Sharon is remembered as a loving daughter and a devoted friend. She will be sadly missed by all who came in contact with her. Sharon attended Matoaca High School (MHS) and will be remembered as a track star. While running track at Matoaca Sharon held several records for several decades. Her innate running skills earned her a track scholarship to North Carolina State University. After college, Sharon worked in several capacities in Greensboro, N.C.; Atlanta, Georgia; and finally settling in Springfield, Virginia. Sharon devoted the last 25 years of her life caring for others. As a Certified Nurse Assistant, Sharon provided expert care and love to numerous patients.
Sharon was a faithful member of Gillfield Baptist Church, Petersburg, Virginia until her death.
Sharon was preceded in death by her grandparents (Hattie and Jack Elder) and her father (James Gholson). She leaves to mourn her death a loving mother (Nancy Walden and her adopted father Clarence McNeill), three uncles Henry Elder, Jack Elder (Susan), James Redd; three aunts (Vertrine Goldsberry, Sylvia Elder, and Patricia Elder); godmother (Constance Easter); and numerous cousins. She will also be lovingly remembered by several special friends: Danielle Newman, Charlette Thweatt Fairchild, Benita Hill Morris, Yolanda Moore McDonald, Evanne Tucker Wheeler, Debra Banks, Stephanie Banks Thomas, Sheila Carrington, Kareem Quay, Pamela Lundy, Maxine Monroe, Marvin Williams, Carlton Edwards, Juan Robinson, Bobby Chavis, Leroy Lane, The Miles and Thweatt families and MHS Crew (78/79 Classes).
Sharon enjoyed a good joke, had a great sense of humor, and will be remembered as the life of the party.
In lieu of a funeral, Sharon elected to have her remains donated to science.
