The Last Dragon

Congratulations to the Park View High School varsity football team on capturing a 50-0 victory over Windsor HS in the final contest in the history of the program on Friday night.

While the season has not gone the way the players and coaches had hoped, this team like so many other Dragons’ teams in school history, gave everything they had throughout the campaign.

This season was particularly trying with COVID-19 contact tracing causing cancellations and postponements and starts and stops throughout the season.

When injuries mounted, Park View just did not have the depth this season with such an inexperienced roster but I thought Coach Tony Whittingham, Jr., and his staff did a great job working with the youngsters.

Coach Whittingham was complimentary of his dedicated players who gutted it out through the trying season.

“I had 75 players the first year I coached,” he said after the game. “We are ending this season with 19 players but you have to respect them for sticking it out.”

With the win, the Dragons ended their final season with a 2-6 record.

The Park View football program finishes its 66-year run in the VHSL with an overall record of 321-323-17.

Bulldogs Earn Home Playoff Game

The Brunswick High School football team finished the regular season off with a bang, winning a pair of games in the final week and earning a No. 3 seed for the VHSL 2A regionals that start this weekend.

The Bulldogs topped Franklin 46-26 on the road last Tuesday night and then captured the Ole’ Wooden Bucket with a big 44-36 victory over archrival Greensville HS in Emporia on Friday night.

The two wins improved the Bulldogs to 5-2 on the season. Brunswick will play host to No. 6 seed Poquoson HS HS in a regional quarterfinal contest.

The Islanders (5-4) earned wins over Tabb, New Kent, Jamestown, Bruton and Grafton in Bay-Rivers District play this season.

Congrats to the Bulldogs and best wishes in the playoffs!
