The Olympics

I always enjoy watching the Olympics and the Summer Games in Tokyo have been very entertaining. While COVID-19 has certainly been a major factor, the stories of the talented athletes as usual have stolen the show.

I enjoyed watching golf this year and seeing American Xander Schauffele capture the gold medal. I have been waiting for Xander to capture a major golf championship title and this is another step in that direction. He was certainly gutsy down the stretch in the final round in Tokyo.

I also was glad to see the Team USA men’s basketball team qualify for the medal round for more than one reason.

Needless to say, Team USA always has a number of Southside, Virginia fans but especially this year with our local superstar Keldon Johnson on the team.

When I look at Keldon’s storied career so far, the first thing that comes to mind besides that he is an outstanding athlete and basketball player, is that Keldon has always taken advantage of every opportunity and he certainly did that this summer in earning a spot on the team.

We are so very proud of our Olympian and hoping Keldon and Team USA can bring the gold medal home!
